A Hideous Act

Once in awhile we get a story at the PPP that brings back memories of the death of my beloved sister Q-Ball. A story where someone does something quite hideous to an animal(s) and the amazing response from people doing their best to rectify it.

Today we have a story from Sheffield, UK. These four newborn puppies are lucky to be alive after being thrown into an icy canal and left to drown. The tiny pups were stuffed into a garbage bag, along with a heavy paving slab to weigh them down and thrown into a freezing canal.

However the ice failed to break and the pups were left freezing in the canal until a passer-by heard them whimpering. Within minutes the RSPCA arrived at the canal and were desperately trying to reach the puppies - which were 20ft from the bank.

Officers immediately called firemen who arrived with specialist 'grab nets' which they used to haul the puppies to safety. One of the pups had to be given the kiss of life after it stopped breathing just before being removed from the ice.

The puppies, named Bruce, Barry, Jacob and Gareth, were so young they had still not opened their eyes and rescuers said they would have died if they remained on the ice any longer. It is not clear what breed the newborns are but RSPCA officers said the pups were no more than one week old.

The cruel act has been condemned by the RSPCA officers which is searching for those responsible.

Matt Bell, RSPCA chief inspector for South Yorkshire, said: 'This was a horrendous act of cruelty against four tiny puppies and we're urging anyone who can help us find the person responsible to get in touch.'These puppies were treated in the most callous way, thrown into the river in a black bin liner and weighted down with a paving slab. 'It was just fortunate that the ice held otherwise they'd have died.'

The four pups are currently being looked after by foster parents who are feeding them every two hours. RSPCA officers said the pups would be ready for adoption in around two months time.

I can't understand how some humans can be so cruel, so heartless, so hideous and others can be such heroes, so giving, so loving and caring.

How can one human fling these adorable, cute, innocent beings into a frozen river to die and another human can go all out to save them? This is the same question I had in my mind when Q-Ball was killed by a cold, heartless man that did not even stop to acknowledge her death and all the people, police and vets that did everything they could to save her life.

At least this story unlike Q-Ball's had a happy ending and hopefully all the puppies will be adopted by loving humans and live long, happy and healthy lives. We at the PPP believe in karma. Those who helped the puppies will have better karma and the perpetrator of this hideous act will pay for their act through their karma. That's what makes me get through the day. Chow for now!
